Rawhide Not Like Chewing Gum In Terms of Calories

0

Because your dog takes time chewing a piece of rawhide, you might assume it’s like chewing gum and doesn’t provide any (or many) calories, or that the dog burns them off while tugging away. Not so.

A rawhide treat that’s roughly 2 inches by 6 inches and just an eighth of an inch thick will generally contain somewhere between 80 and 100 calories. The calorie count of a rolled rawhide snack is much, much higher. Since a 60-pound dog requires only about 1,000 calories a day, give or take, a 100-calorie rawhide treat — 10 percent of that daily calorie allotment — would amount to all the treats he should have in a single day.
